Gruffalo Crumble

Yogurt Parfait, but make it fun

This one was my mom win of the week. If you aren’t familiar with The Gruffalo, by Julia Donaldson, it is a delightful story book about a clever little mouse who outsmarts the bigger, stronger animals in the woods by inventing a scary monster to keep them away… only to discover the monster might be real after all. The mouse describes the imaginary monster - a Gruffalo - in vivid detail, providing a great opportunity to get creative with your little ones and mix in all the fun ingredients into your very own “Gruffalo Crumble”.

It’s fun for kids and a perfect way to incorporate all the healthiest, superfoods you can think of in a meal they will actually eat!

Here are all the Gruffalo’s body parts. Now comes the fun part. What toppings can you come up with for each of them?

Start with a scoop of yogurt, then add your toppings.
Here are some we like to use:

Purple Prickles: blueberries, blackberries, purple grapes (sliced), dragonfruit, pomegranate

Black Tongue: Chia seeds, mashed blackberries, cacao nibs or shavings, prune

Terrible Teeth: Slivered almonds, chopped nuts, granola clusters

Terrible Claws: Coconut flakes, pumpkin or sunflower seeds, Fiber One Original Bran Cereal

Turned Out Toes: Banana slices, pear cubes, soft apple chunks (can roast with cinnamon)

Orange Eyes: Mango cubes, peach slices, persimmon, dried apricots

Knobbly Knees: Chooped walnuts, puffed snacks, granola, roasted chickpeas, date cut in half

Poisonous Wart: Kiwi chunks, green grapes, pistachio crumbs

Sprinkle the “Crumble” (Granola) over the top and let them have fun mashing it all up. Serve and watch as they delightfully eat their Gruffalo Crumble!

Let me know what toppings you come up with!
